Blonde Problems: Restore The Integrity Of Over-Processed, Dull, Broken Hair

Blonde Problems: Restore The Integrity Of Over-Processed, Dull, Broken Hair

Prevent And Repair Breakage

Keep Those Unwanted Brassy Tones At Bay

If you're like most blondes, you know that keeping your hair healthy and luminous can be a challenge. Regardless of which lightener you use, it is inevitable that you're hair is going to suffer much more than if you didn't color it at all, but us ladies would rather maintain our general fabulousness than think twice about pushing the limits on the strength of our hair. Fortunately, there are things you can do to prevent and help restore the breakage that comes with being a blonde.

Using salon grade products only when you're in salon is the first mistake you're making. Just because once every month or two when you get your hair done and use top of the line products at that time, doesn't mean that you can go to your local drug store and pick up whatever shampoo and conditioner is on sale once you leave. There is a reason why great salons carry great hair care lines, and it's not to force you to buy something that you don't need. (it's the opposite!)
As hairstylists, we work hard to make you look amazing and the right home-care products are one of the most important parts of keeping you looking just as great as you did when you left the salon!

Option #1 Home-Care recommendations for blondes who need repair and prevent breakage and aren't concerned about brassiness

Achieve this look for yourself with Kerastase. First apply Nectar Thermique to damp hair from mid-shaft to ends. Next, focus Mousse Bouffante at the scalp and comb throug ends. Rough dry hair until about 75% dry, finish drying with a round brush to add volume and keep strands smooth. Then curl, using your favorite curling iron or wand. To finish apply V.I.P Spray for texture and seperation. For added smoothness and shine, apply a small amount of Touche Perfection to the ends.

To Achieve this sleek look, start by applying Nectar Thermique mid-shaft to ends for heat protection. For hair that is naturally more course or textured apply Oleo-Relax from scalp to ends to help smooth hair with ease. Next, apply Forme Fatale to the root area for extra hold and volume. Then blow-dry hair with a large round brush or flat brush, with natural boar bristles, which creates tension for a smoother style that lasts longer. Vive Le Curl

Bumble and bumble’s New Curl Line has arrived at Salon Envy Chicago!
This new line will change every curly girl’s life!

Start with the Sulfate Free Shampoo and Conditioner that are gentle on you curls. The Curl (care) Shampoo is a special blend Brazilian oils plus Bb’s Curl Optimizing HYDRA SCULPT BLEND™ which hydrates and de-frizzes thirsty curls. The Curl (care) custom Conditioner is a 3-in-1 formula. Leave it in as a treatment for added control and moisture; rinse it out like your normal conditioner, or use it as a co-wash. Co-wash is when you forgo the shampoo and wash your hair with the conditioner. It’s gentle on the hair without stripping or drying, but will not lather. Ask your Salon Envy stylist for more information on Co-washing.

Prime: Help detangle and define on day one with Bb. Curl Pre-style/Re-style. Spray on damp hair after you wash, rake through then style. Use it to re-style dry hair by misting it on to reshape and refresh your look.

Next: Find your Curl type and see what works best to achieve your look and amplify your natural texture.
Waves: Wide-set ripples with Straight Roots.
What:  Pre-Style/Re-Style Primer + Bb. Curl defining cream.
How: Start with Pre-style/Re-style Primer and rake through damp hair. Then use the curl defining cream on damp curls, rake through from roots to ends.
Tip: Use the “Skip Rope” Technique by winding sections of your hair to find the natural bend, squeeze it and pin at the root. Then air dry or diffuse, and finger style.

Spirals: Round Curls with a loose, loopy bend.

What: Bb. Curl Defining Cream + Bb. Curl Conditioning Mouse.
How: Use the curl defining cream on damp curls and rake through from roots to ends. Follow it up with the Conditioning Mouse, from roots to ends, then defuse or air dry.
Tip: The Spiral Set for more uniform Curls. Starting at the front of your head, grab a small section of hair and wrap it around two fingers using a rolling motion. Pin at root and continue over entire head. Then diffuse, air-dry, or dry overnight till completely dry before removing pins. Shake out with fingers.

Ringlets: Springy curls that fall in an “S” pattern.

        What: Defining Crème
How: After using the primer, use the curl defining cream on damp curls and rake through from roots to ends, air-dry or diffuse.
Tip: Twist out Technique for movement, hold, and (tons of) Texture. Use a wide tooth comb to evenly distribute product, select a medium-sized front section of hair and separate into two pieces and twist together. Continue over entire head, diffuse, air-dry, or let dry overnight. Then, untwist sections from ends to root and rake fingers through hair to separate curls.

How: Apply Defining Crème evenly to damp hair and rake through hair to distribute. Follow with Anti-Humidity Gel-Oil by scrunching through hair and dry as desired.
Tip: Ribboning Technique for Separation and Frizz reduction.  Separate hair into four sections, pinning each section at the root. Release one section and apply the Defining Crème followed by Anti-Humidity Gel-Oil. Within each section, pinch out strand of hair and smooth between fingers down the shaft. Then, Twirl ends around your finger. Repeat section by section, all over your head and diffuse or let dry overnight. Use a pick or your fingers to lift roots once dry.

Corkscrew: Tightly-wound Tresses that tend to shrink.
        What: Curl (care) Conditioner + Pre-Style/Re-Style Primer + Anti-Humidity Gel-Oil.
How: Use Curl (care) Conditioner as a leave in treatment for very tight corkscrew curls. Then follow up with the Primer spray all over and use Anti-Humidity Gel-oil by scrunching through and letting it dry as desired.
Tip: Bantu Knots Technique to Define and Unfurl Tight Curls. Divide Hair into four sections, two in front and two in back. Saturate the first section with Pre-Style/Re-Style Primer and Anti-Humidity Gel –Oil. Take a Subsection of the first section, separate into two pieces and twist the strands. Then, wind into small bun tucking the ends under. Repeat within in the section before moving on to the next. Take Care of your Hair this Winter

‘Tis the season for being dried out and plagued by static, but don’t let that keep you or your hair down.

Dry Scalp: The only flakes this season should be made of snow! Prevent a dry scalp by showering in warm, not hot water. Also brushing your hair really well before hopping in the shower can help by distributing the oils and breaking up any build up from the scalp.  If your buildup is caused by products you need a clarifying shampoo like Bumble’s Sunday shampoo, or if it is just dry scalp we recommend Kérastase’s Bain Exfoliant Hydratant. Bumble & bumble’s Tonic Lotion is also a great product for your scalp and hair, with natural tea tree oil, vitamins, and herbs it soothes your scalp and detangles.

Treatments/Conditioning: Treat yourself with a hair masque or in salon treatment which can help keep both your scalp and hair healthy. There are many great take home masques by Kérastase, ask your stylist which one is right for you to treat your hair in the best way possible. It goes deep into your hair for added nourishment, and don’t forget to always use a conditioner at home. If you don’t have time to do it yourself, add a treatment on to your in salon blow-dry/style.

Heat: Easing up on the styling tools can help keep your hair healthy and prevent damage. However, as the temperature drops it may be too cold to forgo the blow dry. Always make sure you use a heat protectant. Not only will it help protect your hair from styling tools it prevents it from drying out and frizzing up. Any of the Kérastase Thermique’s are perfect for protecting your hair based on its needs, or the blow dry styling balms from Bumble that are formulated for each look you’re trying to achieve.

Oils: Kérastase also has the Elixer collection; these oils are formulated to be everything you need to add the extra boost for your hair. It offers more shine, deep conditioning nourishment, anti-humidity protection, faster drying time, and reduces breakage.
Plus it it’s versatile:
  • Pre-Cleanse: Apply to brushed hair and rinse out before applying shampoo to remove impurities
  • Pre-Blow Dry: Apply to towel-dried hair and blow dry as normal for additional protection
  • Finishing: Work into the ends of the hair to control frizz, smooth and style
  • Touch-up: Apply throughout the day to add a touch of shine as needed.
